Any other new parents? No one warned me about this…

When my wife got pregnant, people we know who have children warned us about the sleepless nights, the incessant crying, and utter chaos. But what no one warned us about is the hours of silence. I feed the little guy, he falls asleep on me, and I hold him for at least 20 minutes after feeding to prevent spitting up. This adds up to hours per day spent stuck in one spot with utter silence. But I’ve discovered that this is a beautiful opportunity for prayer. I’ve tried to cultivate an appreciation for silence which I think has prepared me a bit more for this, but it’s still a struggle. Has anyone else discovered this? What do you do during these times? I don’t want to just scroll/watch videos, open to other ideas!

Addressing p*rnography with your child

Parent-to-be here. In preparation for this next phase of life, I’ve been reflecting a lot about my own upbringing as a child and thinking about what I want to do differently as a parent. A memory that came to mind specifically was my mother’s reaction to when she first discovered me viewing pornography (didn’t clear the search history…) When she confronted me, she basically said something like “This is satan, and if you do this you will go to hell”, before storming off and not speaking to me about it again. I know most of our parents aren’t perfect, and we won’t be either, but I’d like to be much less imperfect for the sake of my future children. I’m hoping there are good, self-aware, Catholic parents out there who can share their experiences or advice for handling these big eventual conversations?
